Accurately measuring AEP uplift from wind farm upgrades remains a persistent challenge, particularly where high-quality wind measurements such as LiDAR or met masts are unavailable. This presentation introduces RES’ open-source wind-up methodology and shares results from a real-world case study at Hill of Towie, a 21-turbine onshore wind farm in…

Transforming industry sustainability with our innovative solutions
Transforming industry sustainability with our innovative solutions
by RES | Jul 13, 2026 | Reading time: 2 min
As the energy transition accelerates, maximising the performance of existing assets is more important than ever. Making the most of every megawatt is not just a business efficiency, it is a necessity for the sustainable development of the renewable energy industry. We are committed to delivering purposeful and practical solutions that optimise performance and generate more clean energy from existing assets.
One example of this is our TuneUp solution. Wind turbines are equipped with control systems whose factory settings are engineered to perform well under typical conditions. However, they are not perfectly tuned for the specific site or the turbine’s current condition. With TuneUp, we ensure our customers’ assets deliver maximum clean energy by ensuring each turbine is tuned to extract the maximum energy from the wind on a moment-by-moment basis.
Our solution can increase wind farm yields by over 1%, with further improvements as we continue to refine the technology.
At Altahullion 2 Wind Farm in Northern Ireland, a 20-year-old site where RES delivers Asset Management and O&M services, TuneUp increased annual energy production by 2%, demonstrating how innovation can improve sustainability outcomes without the need for major new infrastructure.
RES has also open-sourced its uplift measurement methodology, wind-up, available on GitHub, supporting industry-wide standards for independently verifying performance gains.
Wind Investment Awards
TuneUp, which also received the Technical Innovation Award at the 2025 Wind Investment Awards, is a solution that improves the performance of existing assets.
Our approach is particularly valuable for wind farms that are 5 to 20 years old, where it helps extend operational life and ensure continued high performance without the need for major upgrades.

Our digital solutions highlight how existing infrastructure can be optimised to deliver greater renewable energy output, supporting long-term sustainability goals while reducing the need for new developments. This is a clear example of practical, measurable sustainability in action.

Wake steering at scale: real results from a commercial wind farm
Wake steering is widely discussed in wind energy but rarely demonstrated at scale on commercial sites. This poster shares results from RES’ first full wake steering trial on a 21-turbine commercial wind farm, using our Dynamic Yaw product to target a 1% AEP uplift. The trial ran from late 2025…
Validating wake steering with open data: LiDAR measurements and uplift analysis from a commercial wind farm
Wind farm flow control and adaptive pitch control are two of the most promising levers for improving AEP at operating wind farms, yet independently validated results from real commercial sites – published openly for the industry to scrutinise – remain the exception rather than the rule. These two papers present…
