Mason Davis – Director of Business Development, Strategy and Markets

Presentation: Day 2 | Tuesday 2 June | 3:00 – 3:25pm CT

Location: Spark Tank Stage

Topic: NFPA 855 in Practice: Designing, Permitting, and Building Code-Compliant BESS in a Rapidly Evolving Fire Safety Landscape

As battery energy storage deployment accelerates nationwide, recent updates to NFPA 855 are reshaping how projects are designed, permitted, and constructed. While the changes are to improve safety and resilience, many developers, EPCs, and AHJs are grappling with how to interpret and apply the new requirements in real-world projects, often late in the development or construction process, with cost and schedule impacts.

Mason will be speaking on fire safety ordinance, covering the topics of:

  • How evolving NFPA 855 requirements influence site layout and equipment spacing
  • Fire detection and suppression system design under the updated code
  • Constructability, cost, and schedule impacts of new compliance requirements
  • Real-world lessons learned working with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs)
  • Navigating late-stage code interpretation challenges in active development and construction
