Denver, Colorado – October 14, 2026 – RES now manages 4 GW of renewable energy capacity across 26 sites from its Denver Operations Control Center. The US operation opened in November 2023 with around 250 MW across 10 sites, making it 16 times larger in under three years.
That growth has taken the center past 1,500 MW of generation under management within the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) grid region alone, the point at which stricter federally enforceable reliability standards apply. The threshold was crossed with the commissioning of Padua 3, a 200 MW battery energy storage project in Texas.
The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) sets the standards that keep the continent’s bulk power system stable and secure, and its Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards govern how operators protect the systems used to monitor and control the grid. Control centers handling equal to or exceeding 1,500 MW in a single grid region move into the Medium Impact tier, which brings heavier obligations across physical security, electronic security, incident response, system recovery, and personnel and training.
RES has worked in the US for 28 years and has developed and built 19.5 GW of renewable energy projects in the country. The Denver center extends that record into long-term operations, giving owners a route to have their assets built and then run by the same independent company.
Juan Gutiérrez, CEO of Services at RES, said: “RES has spent decades developing and building projects across the Americas, and we now run them at scale from our US headquarters. The team in Denver has grown the operation in a short space of time and raised the bar on how we look after renewable assets. Medium Impact reflects the way they were already working, and it gives owners of large portfolios more confidence that we have the right people and processes looking after their projects.”
RES registered as a Generator Operator in April 2026 and has run the Denver center under a Low Impact compliance program since.
The center moved to 24/7 operations in March 2024. It has since become the operational base for customer portfolios across the US, Canada and Latin America, with coverage extended into Brazil in September 2025 and further international opportunities under discussion. Growth has been accelerated by the acquisition of Ingeteam’s services division.
RES has approximately 1.5 GW of additional contracted capacity in the pipeline and is targeting growth to around 5 GW, subject to onboarding schedules.
From Denver, RES provides real-time monitoring and control, responding to alarms, resolving issues remotely where possible and coordinating field response when required. The team also manages work orders, supports coordination with grid and market stakeholders, and keeps owners informed on day-to-day performance. The operations room has 12 operator desks and resilience-focused infrastructure designed to reduce downtime risk and support continuity in the event of disruption.

Notes to editors
- NERC, the North American Electric Reliability Corporation, sets and enforces the reliability standards that govern the North American bulk power system. Its Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards cover cybersecurity for the systems used to monitor and control the grid.
- The CIP Medium Impact classification applies to control centers monitoring or controlling more than 1,500 MW of generation within a single grid region.
- RES operates four Operations Control Centers globally, in Denver (US), Glasgow (UK), Albacete (Spain) and Sydney (Australia).
