RES and Above develop cost-effective and digitalised solution for module warranty claim management

RES and Above develop digital warranty management service

RES, the world’s largest independent renewable energy company, and Above, have co-developed a digital warranty management service to ensure clients can successfully initiate and manage their module warranty claim and revamping projects.

The new service provides a digital twin of solar projects and enables the identification of defective modules helping to manage large-scale module replacements or find the best solution to revamp the site.

Utilising the EyeSite App, and novel hardware developed for use on site, the team at RES scan module serial numbers at record speed and upload the information to a geolocated digital twin, ensuring 100% accuracy without any post-processing. Defective modules, which can either be recorded via drone inspections (Ultra-High Definition or Thermographic) or using EyeSite whilst on site, are identified in the digital twin along with all the uploaded testing and inspection data. This provides the owners and operators all the required information to activate a module warranty claim and/or make decisions on whether to revamp the site to ensure maximum production.

This new service can reduce the time taken to gather the information required for warranty claims from years to months, creating time and financial efficiencies for asset owners alongside improving the performance of projects.

Clients also obtain a complete digital asset register of their site, which will help them greatly for the management of future O&M activities (module condition monitoring) and module warranty claims.

Brian Darnell, Head of Solar and Storage O&M, said: With much of the UK&I’s large-scale solar fleet fast approaching the end of the module manufacturer’s product warranty period, this new service ensures that asset owners have full visibility of their sites operations and revamp where necessary in timely and cost-effective way to maximise the performance of their solar assets.”

Will Hitchcock, CEO of Above  said: “This partnership combines RES’ years of operations & maintenance experience with Above’s industry-leading software technology, enabling owners and operators to robustly manage module warranty claims and revamping projects on large-scale sites. Monitoring module condition in this way creates a new path for solar asset management and operations.”
