The Position

The Accounts Assistant will support different members of the Central Accounting Team and is responsible for processing cash transactions into our Business World software, updating cash books where applicable and ensuring our ledgers reconcile to bank statements.  
Organisational Context 
The role will work closely with both the Accounts Payable Supervisor (Asset Management) and Accounts Payable Supervisor (RES Ltd) to monitor bank statements for both RES Ltd entities and client entities, process the transactions into Business World and ensure the cash books reflect the current bank account balances. 
Key Accountabilities 
  • Review the bank accounts for new transactions on a daily / weekly basis, identifying new transactions and distinguishing between payments or receipts / customer or supplier.
  • Update the cash book with the new transaction details from the statement.
  • Reconcile the cash book to the bank statements for each individual entity and each different bank account
  • Process the transactions into Business World, ensuring payments are reconciled to supplier accounts and payments are matched to the relevant invoices paid.
  • Ensure the cash book and bank statement reflects the bank balance shown in the accounting software Business World
  • Ensure all processes are completed within the required daily / weekly / monthly timeframe
 Knowledge you will need 
•General knowledge of accounting is essential  - including double entry book keeping 
•Knowledge of purchase ledger and associated processing routines. 
•Knowledge of cash book management and reconciliations. 
•Understanding of the core functions of a finance shared services department. 
•Experienced in using Finance Systems 
Skills you will have 
•Competent and efficient, demonstrating attention to detail and ability to deliver quality output (right first time) to deadline 
•Ability to focus on continuous improvements, suggesting and delivering efficiencies to transactional processes. 
•Adaptable and able to be flexible in approach from time-to-time to meet the needs of the business 
•Sound communication skills and the confidence and credibility to communicate clearly and professionally at all levels 
•Strong Microsoft Excel and PC literacy skills are essential 
Experience you will have 
Experience of working in a finance team in a transactional capacity is essential. 
Qualifications you will hold 
 Recognised accountancy qualifications are desirable but not essential (e.g. AAT)
