RES achieves record growth as Solar & BESS pass 3GW in Northern Europe

by RES | Mar 05, 2026 | Reading time: 3 min

London, UK – 5 March 2026 – RES has surpassed 3GW of solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS) under operations and maintenance contracts (O&M) in Northern Europe, marking a major milestone in the company’s continued growth across the region and reinforcing its position as a leading independent provider of renewable energy services.

RES now supports a total of 4GW of renewable energy assets under O&M agreements across Northern Europe (which includes UK+I, Germany, Poland, Norway and Sweden). This includes more than 3GW of solar and energy storage – the primary driver of recent growth – alongside 1GW of wind capacity across the region. The milestone reflects increasing demand from asset owners for integrated technical, digital and lifecycle support as solar and storage portfolios expand to support the energy transition.

With 3.4GW of solar and storage assets under O&M in Northern Europe alone, RES is strengthening its position as a trusted partner to investors and developers seeking to maximise performance, reliability and long-term asset value. Globally, RES now supports more than 45GW of renewable energy assets across wind, solar and storage technologies.

RES has also built significant experience supporting battery storage assets. The company has provided BESS asset management services in the UK since 2018 and is now contracted to deliver services across 18 BESS projects in Northern Europe with a combined installed capacity exceeding 1.5GW.

Juan Gutiérrez, CEO Services at RES, said:
“As solar and storage capacity continues to scale rapidly across Northern Europe, asset owners are increasingly focused on performance, reliability and long-term value. Passing the 3GW milestone for solar and BESS under O&M demonstrates both the strength of our regional portfolio and the trust our customers place in RES to deliver high-quality operational support.

“With 4GW of renewable assets now under our care in Northern Europe – spanning solar, storage and wind – we are well positioned to support customers with the technical expertise, digital insight and operational excellence needed to optimise performance and extend asset life across the region.”

In 2025, RES expanded its UK solar and BESS portfolio from 160 to 242 contracted assets, more than doubling portfolio capacity from 1.4GW to 3.4GW.

Recent UK contract wins include:

  • A three-year O&M contract for the UK’s largest solar farm, Cleve Hill Solar Park (373MW).
  • New asset management contract for the 500MW/1GWh Coalburn battery storage facility, one of Europe’s largest battery energy storage systems (BESS).
  • Renewal of a five-year O&M agreement covering 11 solar PV sites in the UK (121MW) with The Renewables Infrastructure Group (TRIG).

Over the past 12 months, RES has received external recognition for its services capabilities, maintaining second place in Wood Mackenzie’s global Solar PV O&M ranking and consolidating its position as the independent service provider with the widest geographical reach in the sector. The company was also named Asset Manager of the Year, acknowledging its proactive approach to managing renewable and energy storage assets globally.

This performance is underpinned by a services model focused on long-term asset resilience in the UK market. RES’ strategic approach to spare parts and repair supports operational continuity while reducing cost and carbon impact.

These capabilities are complemented by RES’ digital solutions business, established in 2024, which provides remote monitoring, predictive maintenance and performance analytics. Together, RES’ services and digital platforms help asset owners maximise performance, manage compliance and extend the operational life of their assets.
