Optivert – A Novel Method for Inverter Optimization

Inverter overheating is widely recognised across the solar industry, yet most sites continue to rely on OEM curtailment logic that is either too conservative or poorly configured — sacrificing yield while accelerating component wear. This presentation introduces Optivert, RES’ novel inverter temperature management system, and shares results from field trials targeting reduced trips, higher yield on hot days, and extended IGBT lifetime.
Trials ran across 13 UK solar farms between April and August 2025 using a daily toggle methodology and RES’ own edge-computer controller, with no hardware modifications required. Across 117 inverters, mean yield uplift reached 0.22%, with individual inverters achieving up to 13% gain — alongside significant reductions in fatigue damage and erroneous curtailment events.
