Northfleet green hydrogen project
Northfleet green hydrogen project
by RES | Jun 11, 2025 | Reading time: < 1 min

Since 2023, RES has been developing a Green Hydrogen Electrolyser (GHE) production and storage facility at Kimberly-Clark’s Northfleet manufacturing facility in Gravesend, Kent. The Northfleet Green Hydrogen Project was one of 11 successful projects selected as part of the UK Government’s first Hydrogen Allocation Round (HAR1), the funding mechanism designed to support its ambition of hosting 10GW of green and blue hydrogen by 2030.
The manufacturing facility will use a new dual-fuelled boiler which will be able to run on hydrogen and natural gas as a back up. This will help to decarbonise the paper-making process for much-loved household brands like Andrex®.
To optimise the efficiency of the green hydrogen project, a small number of changes are needed to the consented scheme, and we have submitted a new planning application.
