RES retains second place in Wood Mackenzie’s 2026 solar O&M rankings, backed by world’s largest GWO-certified solar workforce

by Marcus Duner | Sep 01, 2026 | Reading time: 3 min

The result reinforces RES’ position as the independent service provider with the widest geographical reach in solar operations and maintenance – backed by the world’s largest internationally certified GWO solar workforce.

London, UK – 1 September 2026 – Wood Mackenzie has ranked RES second in its annual global solar operations and maintenance (O&M) service provider rankings for 2026, maintaining the position held since 2024. The result reflects RES’ continued expansion in solar O&M services, where it now manages 24,3 GW of operational solar assets across multiple markets worldwide.

RES operates as the independent service provider with the widest geographical reach in the solar O&M sector, supporting assets across Europe, the Americas and Asia-Pacific. The company has developed and constructed 4.5GW of solar capacity globally, and its service offer spans the full operational lifecycle of solar installations – from asset management and performance optimisation through to corrective and preventive maintenance.

The ranking coincides with a significant milestone in solar workforce development. RES has built the world’s largest internationally certified GWO solar workforce, with technicians trained to Global Wind Organisation (GWO) standards – a benchmark previously most associated with the offshore wind sector – now applied at scale to solar O&M. The achievement reflects RES’ long-term commitment to raising the standards of safety, professionalisation and skills that will define the next phase of the global solar industry.

GWO certification provides clients and asset owners with confidence that RES technicians meet a rigorous, internationally recognised competency standard. RES operates training centres for technicians in Europe and Latin America, and its growing solar certified cohort is the largest of its kind globally. As solar O&M capacity scales rapidly to meet net zero targets, RES believes that certified, professional workforces are foundational to delivering safe, reliable, long-term asset performance.

Juan Gutierrez, CEO of RES Services, said: “Retaining second place in Wood Mackenzie’s global solar O&M rankings for consecutive years is a reflection of what our teams deliver every day across 24,3 GW of solar assets and multiple continents. What we’ve built in solar goes beyond scale – it’s about the quality and capability of the people behind it. Achieving GWO certification for the world’s largest solar O&M workforce is our commitment in action: to the clients who trust us with their assets, and to the industry standard we believe the solar sector deserves.”
