Repowering them with new turbines is very effective, but not enough is happening. Many European countries lack effective repowering strategies, and cumbersome permitting procedures are holding back progress. Grid connections for repowered wind farms are difficult to obtain, leading developers to keep old turbines running instead. This needs to change to ensure the benefits of repowering are realized across Europe.
