Forss Wind Farm

Forss Wind Farm, Caithness

The two-turbine wind project at Forss in Caithness is the most northerly wind farm on mainland Britain. It is sited on a former US Navy Communications Base.

The project consists of two 1 MW turbines from Danish company Bonus and will generate enough power for up to 2,000 homes. The wind farm was developed by RES and a group of local companies, including The Leet Rodgers Practice (Caithness-based architects), NDR Environmental Services (Caithness-based environmental consultancy) and Fivestone Ltd. It was built by RES using local engineering firms.

The project was commissioned in Spring 2003.

The second phase (4 turbines) will produce sufficient electrical energy to satisfy the average requirements of over 2,680 homes.
