Proposed Dun Law Wind Farm Extension

In April 2005 Renewable Energy Systems (RES) and CRE Energy Ltd (a Scottish Power company) submitted an application for full planning permission to Scottish Borders Council to construct an extension to Dun Law wind farm.

The existing wind farm comprises 26 x 660 kW wind turbines and was developed by RES.

Construction took place in 2000 and the wind farm is now operated by CRE Energy.

The proposed extension comprises a further 35 turbines.

The turbines proposed would have a tubular tower and be three bladed, similar to the turbines on the existing wind farm. The new turbines will have a height to blade tip not exceeding 75m with a nominal rated output of 850kW each. The proposed extension will also have associated electricity transformers, access tracks, substation compound and control building.

Every year the combined wind farm would produce sufficient electrical energy to satisfy the average requirements of approximately 24,000 homes. Construction of the wind farm extension should take approximately 9 months.

The wind farm application was submitted with a full Environmental Statement.

As part of the public consultation which took place throughout the development of the site, a newsletter was produced at the time of the application and was distributed to 1,978 business and residential addresses within 7km of the site boundary, extended to approximately 10.5km along the A68 corridor, to take in the settlements of Lauder and Pathhead.
