Proposed Ark Hill Wind Farm An application for a wind
farm of twelve 1MW turbines at Ark Hill near Glamis on Strathmore Estate
was submitted by RES to Angus Council in April 2000. The application
was withdrawn by RES in June 2001 to allow redesign. The application was accompanied by an Environmental Statement.
As part of the public consultation, a newsletter was produced at the time of the application and was distributed to the 1,600 business and residential addresses with 7km of the site boundary.
A revised planning application for the Ark Hill wind farm was lodged with Angus Council in the summer of 2003. A comprehensive Environmental Statement was submitted alongside the application. The document was designed to identify potential adverse environmental effects associated with the project and to demonstrate how, mainly through identification of sensitive areas and through careful design, these had been avoided or mitigated. Following submission of the application, Angus Council invited consultation responses from statutory bodies and public representation. In the light of submissions, further information has been sought from the applicant, Renewable Energy Systems UK Ltd (RES). Three main topics are addressed by a Supplement to the Environmental Statement (2005). The Supplement:
The purpose of the grid element is to allow the local authority (Angus Council) when determining the wind farm planning application to do so in the context of the fuller environmental implications of the wider project. This Report is contained in a single volume, and includes a Non-Technical Summary.
