Our internal expertise includes the development, engineering, procurement, and self-perform transmission line construction of over 1,000 miles of transmission lines at voltages up to 345kV. We have expanded our transmission capabilities to include project management and development of transmission projects in support of utility affiliates competing for projects in the United States, Canada, and Northern Europe. This experience has served utility-scale renewables and the integrated bulk transmission system, and is available to support entry into the rapidly expanding market for transmission investment. Our interest in transmission extends to minority ownership positions in projects we successfully develop.

We pursue competitive opportunities for transmission projects globally, either by applying our development and project management expertise in conjunction with a partnership team, or by providing development services to third parties. For example, we are currently partnering with a group of Indigenous communities and FortisOntario to develop, own, and operate a 1,800 km transmission line in northern Ontario, Canada (the Watanikaneyap Transmission Project).

We have an extensive national and international network of vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors, with whom we have long-term relationships. Our highly experienced transmission team has a proven record of bringing large projects to completion for our clients.


In 2015, we bolstered our North American transmission and substation contracting experience with the acquisition of System 3 Inc.

We have extensive expertise in constructing substation, transmission, overhead and underground distribution, and collection systems for utilities as well as private energy developers and industrial customers. 

Our transmission and distribution team constructs and updates substations and distribution and transmission lines as utility companies across the US upgrade their systems. We self-perform full scopes of work for utility customers from drilling and placing foundations through erection, welding, and stringing. For industrial clients, like the federal government, general and electrical contractors, and industrial plants, we perform traditional inside and outside plant electrical as well as medium, high voltage and communications work. Our highly experienced team is comprised of a skilled workforce able to mobilize quickly for capital or service projects across the US.

We are safety driven, have extensive quality assurance/quality control programs, and have the ability to self-perform all electrical scopes.

Case studies

345kV reconductor transmission line

This project consisted of reconductor 6 mile segment of 345kV bundled 954 conductor. We climbed and checked lattice towers for proper bolt torque during a 6-week outage window. The project included:

  • Inspected lattice towers between structure 100 and 122, tightened loose and replaced missing hardware
  • Removed existing conductor
  • Replaced existing deadend assemblies and suspension attachments
  • Strung new conductor and shield wire from 100-122
  • Installed dampers on conductor and shield wire
  • Installed a new wire gate in the existing fence

Montana-Alberta Tie Line

214 mile tie-line

In 2013, we completed construction of the Montana-Alberta Tie Line (MATL), a 214 mile, 300 MW, 230kV electrical transmission line allowing the bi-directional movement of power between Alberta, Canada, and Montana, United States. MATL allows markets on both sides of the border to have efficient and economic access to existing and new generation sources, including new sources of wind energy.
