Summary:  

T&D Construction Directors take ownership for the entire performance of Substation and Transmission projects including safety, quality, schedule, budget and client satisfaction.  This person provides direction and oversight to active projects that include review of budgeting, contract negotiations, and project execution

Specific duties:

  • Present, support and lead-by-example with a safety and quality orientated attitude
  • Leadership Accountabilities:  Identify, deploy, and manage a high-performing team needed to accomplish business objectives. Provide a positive and engaging work environment by:
  • hiring outstanding talent;
  • aligning individual and team objectives to department and company objectives;
  • managing and supporting employee development and growth;
  • providing regular and direct feedback on performance and goal progress.
  • Ensures that projects are constructed safely and to high quality standard and that they are resourced correctly to complete on time and budget.
  • Ensure projects meet requirements for budgeting.
  • Review budget and cost to complete projections.
  • Responsible for several active projects at any given time.
  • Develops new relationships with sub-contractors, utilities and clients.
  • Review and signoff on estimates during the proposal phase of projects.
  • Oversees the responses to Requests for Proposals and support the bid process to successfully negotiate new projects.
  • Leads contract negotiations with the client
  • Generate internal reports and conferences for updates relating to project updates, personnel, budget review and schedules.
  • Directs the Project Managers who will be responsible for delivering quality projects on time and on budget.   
  • Coach and mentor Project Managers to improve skill sets.
  • Work with business development to create leads and develop relationships with prospective customers.
  • Improve and document processes and procedures.
  • Understand and review Safety Management Systems, Quality Management Systems and Environment Management Systems.
  • Review internal and external weekly and monthly project reports, generated by Project Managers and site teams.
  • Follows safety and security procedures and determines appropriate action.  Reports potentially unsafe conditions and uses materials and equipment properly.    
  • Job Measures include:
  • Budget and/or profit margins on High Voltage Substation and Transmission work.
  • Approval limits for subcontracts and purchase orders.
  • Schedule and project completion on time per budget.
  • RFP - proposal acceptance for lump sum EPC and Bid-Build work

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (equivalent is 8 years of experience), preferably in a construction related field.
  • Must have 7+ years’ experience in a similar position with experience executing Engineer Procure Construction high voltage projects.   
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple assignments, and prioritize is required
  • Successful candidates will be self-starters that enjoy challenges and leading teams.
  • Must have a valid current driver license, eligible for corporate vehicle insurance coverage.
  • Travel is required.

Performs primarily sedentary office duties with occasional travel to other Company offices or construction sites.  Incumbent may occasionally lift up to 10 pounds and may be required to sit, stand, walk and use a computer.

Construction site environment includes early stage permitting, development and auditing through finished roads and features.  Extensive travel with driving to remote sites along with office work in field conditions is also included.
