As energy supply becomes more decentralised and renewable energy makes up a greater percentage of the energy mix, storage will be deployed in many more projects. These will range from stand alone systems providing grid support or backup to industrial sites, to integrated systems that combine a diverse range of generation technologies on a single site, whether grid connected or off grid. As such the Storage Engineering Manager will provide engineering and a degree of commercial support to energy storage projects across RES.
Manage the Systems Engineering team to support across EMEA
Provide delivery of engineering support to those countries in the EMEA region that are developing storage engineering capability
Work closely with the business development team to support third party bids
Work with the RES technical teams to ensure we optimise our battery sizing
Coordinate storage engineering across EMEA countries once this capability is established locally
Work relentlessly with business development, engineering, construction, procurement and other departments as appropriate to drive down the life cycle cost of storage projects to maximise the profit to RES
Support the development of engineering innovations to reduce cost and/or enhance the commercial proposition from RES storage projects
Manage the delivery of strategically important projects and products on a Regional and Global basis as required.
Provide line management to engineers as appropriate.
Provide matrix management to engineers seconded to projects being managed by the Storage Engineering Manager.
Willingness to travel to support real world deployments in EMEA, and to RES Americas headquarters in Denver essential.
Knowledge of energy storage systems, their strengths, weaknesses and technology readiness levels
Broad engineering knowledge covering mechanical, electrical, control and structures
Knowledge of product development
Project management in both a product development and construction environment
Ability to see the big picture, good time management and organisation skills. Presentation skills, reporting writing and data analysis skills are all required.
Understanding the complex engineering & commercial interactions of energy storage systems
Management of complex engineering projects with a high level of commercial drivers
Line management of professional engineers
Management of international teams and projects
Experience of interacting with clients in a sales support role
Engineering Degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or equivalent experience
Chartered Engineer status would be preferred
