Battery Storage O&M Technician - Various Locations

The Battery Storage O&M Technician is a site-based role performing operational and maintenance duties on utility-scale battery storage plants up to 35 MW in size. The overall purpose of the role is to ensure the plants achieve outstanding levels of safety and performance at minimum cost.

The ideal candidate will have experience of managing large-scale operational sites and will have developed a specialism in one or more of the following areas (not all areas are required):

• Fully qualified electrician with experience of operation and maintenance, or

• Installing, configuring or troubleshooting electrical protection systems, or

• Working with operational SCADA, control or instrument systems, or

• Heating, Ventilation and Cooling systems (HVAC), or

• Industrial batteries and Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS), or

• Inverter/converter maintenance and troubleshooting experience, or

• High voltage authorisation, switching, fault finding and maintenance, or

• Familiarity with fire protection/suppression and CCTV system

Candidates are not expected to have all of the above experience but any such experience will be an advantage. Candidates will need to be located near one of the operational plants (Tyneside and East Lothian) and have a full driving licence. The role will require availability for weekend on-call duties and some out of hours working. RES welcomes applications from candidates from a wide range of backgrounds.

Key Accountabilities 

The responsibilities of the Battery Storage O&M Technician include:

  • Adherence to health & safety requirements at all times and pro-actively improving safety
  • Helping to prepare and review risk assessments and method statements
  • Undertaking planned inspection and maintenance according to legal, technical, manufacturer and contractual requirements
  • Undertaking testing, troubleshooting and fault-finding
  • Carry out reactive maintenance, fault diagnosis and resolution in a timely manner
  • Configuration of computer-based devices and components, including firmware updates
  • Occasionally undertaking ground/civil maintenance, mechanical work and cleaning
  • Carrying out site inductions for sub-contractors and monitoring their work
  • Keeping accurate records using the electronic maintenance management system
  • Keeping in close communication with the O&M office
  • Travelling between the sites and offices in Tyneside and West Lothian
  • Occasionally working away from home for training courses or to cover other sites for up to one or more weeks at a time

Knowledge

Essential 

  • Technical understanding of electrical and/or communications systems 
  • Knowledge and understanding of operational systems 
  • Awareness of key industrial hazards and their mitigation's

Desirable

  • Knowledge of battery storage
  • Principles of High Voltage operations 
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems
