Project Civil Engineer

The Project Civil Engineer is responsible for the provision of civil engineering advice and preparation of preliminary designs during project development phase.

Reports To: Head of Development,
Location: Chatswood, Sydney with regular travel to prospective project sites in remote locations throughout Australia

Organisational Context (to include impact and influence)

  • The Project Civil Engineer will ensure that civil engineering designs contribute to achievement of project objectives set by the Australian head of projects (cost, time, safety, quality and environmental performance) during the development phase of each project.

  • The Project Civil Engineer will work across a variety of development projects at a variety of stages and will work alongside Development Project Managers.

  • The Project Civil Engineer will be required to consult and collaborate with external stakeholders including the client, local planning authorities, local highways, landowners.

Key Accountabilities

  • The Project Civil Engineer works within the project delivery teams in all areas relating to engineering design and construction suitability of utility scale wind, solar or battery energy storage projects and grid connection infrastructure.

  • Responsible for delivery of all civil and site engineering assessments including topographical surveys, geotechnical assessments, construction feasibility, infrastructure design, access assessments, drainage and sediment control design.

  • Specifying and managing works of external contractors carrying out site surveys, geotechnical assessments and installation of meteorological monitoring masts on site, in line with RES processes and HSQE requirements.

  • Managing external designers and liaising with the project delivery teams to ensure effective coordination of engineering disciplines.

  • Add value and reduce costs (DEVEX, CAPEX and OPEX) for projects wherever possible through efficient working, careful scoping, procurement and innovative engineering and design solutions.

  • Active promotion and demonstrable achievement of company safety leadership and sustainability objectives.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of civil engineering aspects of onshore wind farm and solar energy projects in Australia

  • Good understanding of geotechnical &structural design principles

  • Working knowledge of survey techniques

  • Familiarity with relevant Australian engineering design, health, safety & environmental regulations relating to construction of renewable energy projects.

  • Good understanding of consultancy contracts or agreements

Experience

  • At least 2-5 years relevant post graduate experience of multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects.

  • Management or coordination of design processes

  • Highway design experience desirable

  • AutoCAD Civil 3D experience

Qualifications

  • Civil Engineering degree or equivalent.
