Construction Project Manager

<p>The Construction Manager is responsible for supporting the preparation, delivery and completion of the construction phase of renewable energy projects.</p> <p>At the project level the Construction Manager will at all times ensure compliance with the requirements set out in contracts, RES management systems, health and safety guidelines and legislation and all project obligations. The Construction Manager will also ensure efficient handover of projects to the generation team. <br /> <em>Location</em>: Chatswood, Sydney and regular attendance at construction at sites. </p>

  • Responsible for managing construction aspects of projects from notice to proceed to handover to generation.

  • Inspiring and empowering site teams to work collaboratively and take personal responsibility for delivering the project(s).

  • Provision of specialist and technical knowledge relating to construction at project delivery level.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support the preparation and negotiation of construction contract documentation and interaction with procurement team for the delivery of the agreed procurement strategy for projects, Including input into the EPC, BoP and equipment procurement.

  • Lead on the delivery of individual wind and solar projects from notice to proceed through to full operation.

  • Management of all contractual obligations and processes within EPC and grid connection contracts including HSQE, milestones, programming, payments, variations,performance guarantees, completion testing and handover to generation.

  • Active promotion and demonstrable achievement of company safety leadership and sustainability objectives. Responsible for ensuring project compliance for investors and RES staff with RES Health, Safety, Quality and Environment procedures and relevant H&S legislation.

  • Preparation of construction budget, management of construction costs, forecasting cost to completion on a monthly basis and client reporting during and following construction (including any defect liability period).

  • Manage Coordination of key completion milestone events including project energisation, contractual taking-over and internal handover of the project to generation.

  • Manage the work of the external Owners Engineer on behalf of the project.

  • Work with the generation team to ensure a smooth handover of the project and to implement asset management, O&M and maintenance / warranty contracts including testing, monitoring, validation and defect liabilities.

  • Management and quantification of construction risks and escalation where necessary.

  • Ensure that investor requirements, whether RES or third party etc are clearly understood and met.

  • Ensure that feedback in relation to supplier performance is provided to the procurement department during and following construction.

  • Drive to reduce construction costs through timely procurement, value engineering,economic design and scope.


  • Detailed knowledge of renewable energy construction processes encompassing civil, equipment and electrical engineering.

  • Understanding of the development,construction and handover to generation phases of renewable energy projects.

  • Understanding of project contracts,including EPC, Balance of Plant(BOP), Property Options and Leases and consultancy agreements.

  • Contemporary knowledge of the wider Australian construction industries including relevant regulations and legislation.


  • Leadership skills within the context of construction sites including the ability to communicate effectively with EPC contractors, subcontractors and other site staff.

  • Effective negotiation skills, with experience of negotiating in a commercial or engineering environment.

  • Ability to manage complex interfaces,risks and stakeholder needs.

  • Managing project contractual obligations.

  • Identification and mitigation of risks.


  • +5 years relevant experience of managing both site and project construction teams

  • Commercial experience of preparing and delivering significant construction contracts

  • Understanding of Construction Management.

  • Successfully managing projects within resource and budget constraints.


  • Construction management,engineering or science degree or equivalent experience.

  • Ability to travel and / or locate for regular periods in Victoria and Queensland during construction periods. Home working can be considered.
