Asset Management Business Development Manager

The Business Development Manager will be a member of the Asset Management team and will work closely with the Head of Development and Asset Management.

The role will focus on leading the development of the RES Australia Asset Management business across utility scale wind, solar and energy storage projects: identifying and securing new business opportunities; developing services and systems and manging contracting.

Organisational Context (to include impact and influence)

  • Working as a key role within the RES Australia Asset Management team and working closely with the Head of Development and Asset Management and other business leads.

  • Regular communication with target clients and external contractors; and

  • Communication within RES Group including Specialist Services, insurance and legal.

Key Accountabilities

As Business Development Manager you will:

  • Understand, and contribute to the development of the services to be offered, their costs(and cost models) and profitability;

  • Lead in the development of a marketing plan and associated materials;

  • Plan and deliver a programme of business development activity to meet revenue and profit targets;

  • Develop and maintain client relationships including preparing and delivering presentations to clients and identifying and generating opportunities to submit bids;

  • Evaluate partnering and acquisition opportunities;

  • Lead the preparation of bids or support others preparing bids and manage relevant opportunities through to contract signature;

  • Be responsible for managing the overall programme of opportunities and contacts and ensure these are correctly recorded within the CRM database;

  • Support procurement activities for asset management and downstream contracts by providing detailed specifications and pricing structures and liaising where required with wider relevant RES Group teams;

  • Evaluate technical capabilities and H&S records of relevant contractors.

Alongside the technical accountabilities, the role will also require:

  • Travel within Australia, and;

  • Attendance at key and relevant conferences including presenting at public events to enhance RES profile in the market.


  • Knowledge of typical contents of a marketing plan for selling services in a B2B environment;

  • Knowledge of business development process typically used for selling services in a B2B environment;

  • Knowledge of the principles of key account management; and

  • Knowledge of the Australian renewable energy (utility scale wind, solar and battery storage) sector.


  • Excellent communication skills,particularly for leading tenders and for representing RES credibly and presenting our services clearly and positively in face-to-face meetings, presentations and written proposals with clients,contractors and other stakeholders;

  • Strong numerical analysis skills required for developing cost models for delivering technical services (such as asset management and O&M) under long term contracts;

  • Strong research and strategic analysis;

  • Good organisational skills to meet demanding timescales on a number of potentially simultaneous tenders and other business development activities;

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office


  • 3 years + experience in planning and delivering business development and selling services in a B2B environment;

  • Experience in preparing proposals;

  • Experience of working within the Australian renewable energy (utility scale wind, solar and energy storage)sector.


  • A degree in business management,engineering, or equivalent qualification is desirable;

  • Or a proven background in a relevant business development activity with 5 years + experience may be sufficient.
